Student Program

[Under Construction]

The WORKS club Student Pilot Training Program begins on the ground by:

  •     Review general club rules and field flight lines.
  •     Show you how to ground check your airplane for flight.
  •     Safely start and adjust mixture on your engine.
  •     Learn to control your plane on the ground.

After your plane has been ok'd for flight, your instructor will do a flight check and trim out all controls. We then connect our "Buddy Box" system and let you fly your own plane. We have "Buddy Box" systems for all "Futaba" and "JR" radio systems.

Once you have mastered the controls for basic maneuvers, you are expected to fly the "Basic Box Pattern". We try to get your altitude lower with each flight until you are comfortable with the ground coming up at you. Once you have done this you can begin practicing takeoffs and landings.

To get your wings you have to:

  •     Take off, gain altitude to 200 feet, fly the pattern and land on the runway.
  •     Take off, gain altitude to 200 feet, fly the pattern and do a "touch and go" on the runway.
  •     Fly to 200 feet, kill your engine and land dead stick on the field, not necessarily the runway.

Once you have accomplished this you will be signed off by your instructor!  The sign off must be witnessed by two instructors and they must also be satisfied that you are ready for solo flight.

The WORKS club Student Pilot Training Program begins in full operation on the first Wednesday in April and runs until the time change in late October. Training time begins at 6:00 pm and runs until dark.

The WORKS club student training is done on Wednesday nights.  Students may fly on other days if an instructor is available. The field is closed on Wednesday evenings to all other flying. STUDENTS ONLY ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS!!

If anyone would like to get a head start on the regular season, feel free to e-mail me (rcflyer246@sbcglobal.net) and try to schedule a time on Saturday or Sunday.  I also send a general e-mail if possible when I go out to the field so students may get some extra time.  If  you would like to be added to the list please let me know.  I fly in the winter if the conditions are favorable.  We hope to see a lot of new faces at the field this year and get everyone signed off to fly on their own.
